Anyone worrying about a wipe can breathe a bit easier: the Windrose team has said early access progress is sticking around, so the gear, materials, and odd treasures you've been hoarding aren't about to vanish. That makes it a good time to sort your stash, compare your Windrose Items, and get ready for the Ashlands patch without that little voice telling you it's all pointless. The mood changes fast once you leave the Coastal Jungle, though. The Ancient Swamps don't ease you in. They shove poison, heavy hits, and ugly terrain in your face straight away, and the Forgotten Relics quest becomes one of those jobs you really don't want to rush.

The Swamps Punish Careless Players

The big reason players head into the Ancient Swamps is the second Charon's Obol, since the health regeneration is too useful to ignore. Still, the Tainted Forest is where a lot of people get humbled. You'll notice the purple taint bar creeping up as you move through the area. Let it fill and that's it. Dead on the spot. No heroic last stand, no lucky roll. Before you go poking around in there, craft proper Taint Resistance gear and bring a backup plan. The High Priestess fight is another step up. She's basically a huge frog with nasty area slams and tongue strikes that punish anyone standing too close. Don't try to trade hits unless you're geared like a monster. Aim for the breakable spheres on her back, stun her, then pour on ranged damage while she's open.

Farming Is Boring Until You Need It

After a few swamp deaths, the Foothills start to feel like a holiday, even if they've got their own problems. This is where setting up a proper farm pays off. Bring a copper pickaxe and mine Fertile Soil from the ruined Ancient Farms scattered around the zone. Once you've placed garden beds, you can plant wild seeds such as flax, tomatoes, and aloe. The nice part is that crops grow on their own. No watering, no babysitting, just about 70 real-time minutes of waiting. Flax is the one I'd push early. You think you've got enough, then suddenly every craft wants more of it. A large flax patch saves a lot of wandering later, and honestly, future-you will be grateful.

Foothill Ruins Are Worth the Trouble

While you're out there collecting soil and seeds, keep an eye out for Ancient Fire Sanctuaries. They're not just pretty ruins. Most of them hide puzzle rooms with pressure plates, heavy vases, and broken braziers that need lighting before doors open. It's simple enough once you slow down, but rushing gets people killed. Some floors collapse under you and drop you into pits full of undead, which is about as fun as it sounds. The loot usually makes the risk worthwhile, especially if you're still building out your weapon set or short on rare materials. Just don't go in with a full inventory. Nothing feels worse than finding good rewards and having to dump half your bag in a panic.

Weapons, Pets, and Ship Repairs Matter More Than You Think

The current weapon choices are in a pretty good spot. If you complete the Foothills altar ritual with three pots of Ritual Oil and 20 pieces of meat, you'll get the Boar Whistle, which summons Truffle, a giant boar companion who can soak pressure and smack enemies around. Melee players should try the Executioner, since kills build a crit chance buff up to 30 percent. In the Cursed Swamps, the Plague Halberd is a nasty pick, and its upgraded five-stack effect can trigger an area burst that heals 35 percent of your max health. Ranged players will probably love the Reliable Musket for its quick reload. At sea, don't forget Master Combat Repair Kits. They restore 60 percent ship health over 10 seconds, though incoming fire can ruin the heal, so buying or saving cheap Windrose Items won't help much if you refuse to disengage before patching the hull.
